Dawn & Nelson-Snowbirds

This is the travel diary of our "snowbird" winter in Arizona. We'll try our best to update this every day along to keep our friends and family updated on our lives.

Nelson

Well, while my day really wasn't a bad day, you could call it a "crappy" one.

That's because this morning as we were leaving Crazy Horse Campgrounds in Lake Havasu City, I dumped our gray and black water tanks and long story short the coupling on the hose that connects to the RV broke as soon as I opened the valve for the black water tank. Needless to say, in the split seconds that it took me to close the valve, there was a bunch of icky sewer water inside the storage bin that the hookup stuff is in. And it STUNK!!!

Well, I figured out how to get all the ick out of it by stopping at a coin-op car/RV wash on the way out of town. The stink went away shortly after that, while the dogs and I continued down the road with a window and a vent open. The worst part of it all was that I couldn't get the drain in the storage bin to open with a glove on, so yep . . . you guessed it, I had to stick my bare hand in the ick and open the thing up. I couldn't wash my hands enough the rest of the day, and I couldn't get enough Purell hand sanitizer either. That process was the most disgusting thing I think I've ever had to do.

You probably noticed that I said the dogs and I . . . and no reference to Dawn. That's because my beautiful wife is so wonderful that she took our car and went to LA today on her own to surprise Brooke on her 26th birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKE!!! We've had it planned for a couple of days, but on the blog we made everything sound like we were both coming back to Mesa today, so as not to spoil the surprise. Dawn gets back here on Monday. I've rented a car so that I can get around here over the weekend.

My drive over here was pretty quiet. I missed having Dawn with me for someone to talk to.

The dogs were cute. Lucy spent almost the whole drive sitting or laying in Dawn's chair up front. Molly spent most of the drive in her little bed on the floor next to Dawn's chair. But for about 1/3 of the drive, just before we got to Phoenix, Molly actually got up on Dawn's chair and sat/laid there! That was big, because to this point of our trip, we've felt like Molly HATED the driving parts. Twice today, she also let me know she had to go potty by going down in the stairs by our access door, same as she does when we're living somewhere. Tonight, they're looking for their mommy.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. I'm going to work on my boat and make sure everything is OK after it sank on our last day in Havasu. I may get out to a race that Mesa Model Yacht Club is putting on this weekend, too, if I can find the pond they race on. But I also have some important stuff to get to, including a trip to Camping World for a new sewer hose, and a few other things we need. I also have to fix the water heater. So, the boat race my go by the wayside. I'll finish my day at Wells Fargo Arena on the ASU campus, watching the Cougars play Arizona State in the last Pac-10 men's basketball game of the regular season.

Until next time . . . See ya!
